In Russia's southern Krasnodar area, an oil store caught fire overnight due to a Ukrainian drone attack, but the fire has already been put out, regional officials reported on Wednesday.

In recent days, fires have been started at the Astrakhan gas processing facility and a large oil refinery in the Volgograd region as a result of Ukraine's string of drone strikes on Russia's energy installations.

The Kanevsky District's operational authority posted on the Telegram messaging app that the fire in a tank containing oil product leftovers in the village of Novominskaya had been completely put out.

The Krasnodar region's governor, Veniamin Kondratyev, had earlier stated that the fire, which was started by falling drone debris, had not injured anyone. According to him, a group of 19 individuals were battling the fire with 19 pieces of equipment.

Kondratyev did not specify which depot was on fire or how much damage had been done.

In a post on the Telegram messaging service, the Russian defence ministry claimed that four Ukrainian drones were shot down over Russian territory overnight, but it made no mention of the Krasnodar region.

The number of drones launched is not disclosed by the ministry; only drones destroyed by its air defence systems are.

Ukraine did not immediately comment. Kyiv claims that its operations within Russia are a reaction to Russia's ongoing bombardment of Ukraine and are intended to destroy infrastructure essential to Moscow's war in Ukraine.
